A new online game challenges players to identify whether displayed images are authentic photographs or AI-generated within a 60-second timed round, giving roughly 10 seconds per image. The format is designed as a quick, gamified test of visual discernment rather than a formal study.
Emily Oberg, founder of fashion brand Sporty & Rich, revealed she tested AI-generated imagery to cut costs on e-commerce photo shoots, which typically run upwards of $200,000 twice a year. She said the results looked flat, lifeless and overly perfect, with models appearing 'dead in the eyes,' prompting her to return to using a full human team for future shoots.
Stella Parton, sister of the late singer Dolly Parton, publicly asked fans to stop sharing AI-generated images and fabricated tribute videos following her sister's death. She said the flood of fake content, including AI images shared even by President Trump, has made it difficult for the family to grieve and process the loss.
President Trump spent over 10 hours on Truth Social posting dozens of AI-generated images, including one showing him monitoring markets with a caption claiming he personally made 'Hundreds of Billions of Dollars on Stocks' and other holdings for the country. Reverse engineering of Windows Paint and Photos apps found that both send user prompts to a Microsoft server for moderation even when image generation runs locally via onboard AI models. That server returns a GUID alongside the approved prompt, and this GUID gets invisibly embedded into the pixels of the generated image, separate from the visible watermark toggle users can control. This applies even on Copilot+ PCs where generation happens entirely on-device.
