Winamp, the once-dominant MP3 player from the late 1990s known for its llama mascot, is returning to relevance through a partnership with streaming platform Deezer. The two companies plan to launch a subscription-based streaming service next year, positioning Winamp as a competitor to established players like Spotify.
JustWatch, best known as a guide for finding where to stream content, announced at the Toronto International Film Festival that it will launch its own platform called JustWatch TV in October. The service will offer three tiers: a free ad-supported option, rental/purchase titles, and a paid ad-free subscription, with initial content from Fremantle, Paramount and Bleecker Street. It will launch across the US, UK, Canada, and several European and Oceania markets, with plans to expand further.
Tubi has introduced TubiFone, a toll-free hotline (1-833-605-TUBI) that suggests movies based on a caller's mood, as part of its new 'Find Any Feeling for Free' campaign. Callers select an emotional category and a recorded voice reads out five film recommendations with brief descriptions and cast details.
Apple increased its Apple TV streaming service price from $12.99 to $14.99 per month, with the annual rate rising from $99 to $119. The Apple One bundle, which includes Apple TV alongside iCloud storage and Apple Music, also rose from $19.95 to $21.95 for individual plans.
Apple has raised the monthly cost of an Apple TV subscription in the US from $13 to $15, with the annual plan now $120. The individual Apple One bundle, which includes Apple TV, rises by $2 to $22 per month, while other Apple One tiers remain unchanged for now. New subscribers face the higher prices immediately, and existing customers will get a month's notice before their rates change.
Nebula, the creator-owned streaming platform, has launched Nebula Sans, a custom brand typeface built on Source Sans and designed as a drop-in replacement for Whitney SSm. The font comes in two styles across six weights and is released under the SIL Open Font License, making it free for anyone to download and use. Nebula also released a short documentary detailing the typeface's creation.
