Chinese humanoid robots break sprint records, some catch fire, at Beijing games

At the second World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing (August 22-26), robots competing in a 100-meter sprint and standing high jump beat human world records set by Usain Bolt and others, marking a jump from last year's event where they trailed human performance. Some sprinting robots couldn't stop in time, crashing into barriers, falling, and in a few cases breaking apart with sparks or catching fire, while separate tasks like hanging laundry showed robots still moving far slower than humans.

Movie tie-in games have nearly vanished since their 2007 peak of 30+ titles

Once a near-guarantee for any blockbuster, licensed movie video games have dwindled from over 30 releases in 2007 to almost none in 2025, replaced instead by in-game tie-ins like Minecraft movie servers or Fortnite skins for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Recent releases such as the remastered Lord of the Rings: War in the North and the upcoming Toy Story compilations have reignited interest in this fading genre.

New daily word game 'Don't Wordle' flips Wordle's rules

Don't Wordle is a free browser-based daily puzzle that reverses the logic of Wordle: players get six guesses but must avoid landing on the hidden word rather than finding it. Standard green, yellow and gray letter clues still apply, but the goal shifts to using them to steer away from the answer while keeping options open. The game includes limited undos, daily stats tracking and shareable results.
