Trump Mobile drops its 'made in the USA' claims

The Trump Organization announced a cellular brand earlier this summer, and its main selling point for Trump Mobile was that its T1 smartphone was "made in the USA." It seemed highly unlikely that those claims about the phone were possible. Now, the website for the device has removed all language indicating that it was manufactured in the US. Instead, there is broader language such as "designed with American values in mind" and "Premium Performance. Proudly American." The Verge also noticed that

Tomatoes in the Galápagos are quietly de-evolving

This article has been reviewed according to Science X's editorial process and policies . Editors have highlighted the following attributes while ensuring the content's credibility: De-evolved tomato species from the Galápagos. Credit: Adam Jozwiak/UCR On the younger, black-rock islands of the Galápagos archipelago, wild-growing tomatoes are doing something peculiar. They're shedding millions of years of evolution, reverting to a more primitive genetic state that resurrects ancient chemical def

The staff break rooms within federal agencies like the National Institutes of Health may soon get a lot less interesting. According to a report from Axios, the Trump administration has canceled funding and contracts to Springer Nature, including payments for subscriptions to the company’s publications, which include the magazine Scientific American and prominent peer-reviewed research journals under the Nature portfolio. Per Axios, the total contract cuts amount to millions worth of funding for

‘Ironheart’ Has a Phase One MCU Link We Didn’t See Coming

If we said Ironheart, the new Marvel Studios show about a genius who builds a special suit allowing her to fly around, linked to the original 2008 film Iron Man, you’d say “No duh.” The entire idea and premise of the show are intrinsically linked to that character and film. But if we told you the connection went beyond that, and linked to a supporting character in that film played by an Oscar winner, you’d probably be like “Tell me more.” So we will. Ironheart debuted its first three episodes o

Best Desks of 2025: I've Spent Nearly 4,000 Hours Testing Desks. These Are the Ones You Want

Testing desks is something of a subjective game. Much like office chairs, the tests are based on comfort, reliability and ease of setup rather than things you can test in electronics such as wattage and battery usage. I still tested each one rigorously and will continue to test them for longevity in the coming months. I tested these desks by asking three people to try each one. Each of them used the desk for at least 16 hours and then gave me their impressions. The three people were 6 feet, 1 i

Games run faster on SteamOS than Windows 11, Ars testing finds

Nearly a decade ago, Ars testing found that Valve's "Steam Machines"-era version of SteamOS performed significantly worse than Windows when SteamOS' Linux game ports were tested on the same hardware as their Windows counterparts. Today, though, Ars testing on the Lenovo Legion Go S finds recent games generally run at higher frame rates on SteamOS 3.7 than on Windows 11. The performance advantage is yet another way that Valve's upstart OS is differentiating itself from the "default" Windows insta

Hundreds of data brokers might be breaking state laws, say privacy advocates

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and a nonprofit privacy rights group have called on several states to investigate why “hundreds” of data brokers haven’t registered with state consumer protection agencies in accordance with local laws. An analysis done in collaboration with Privacy Rights Clearinghouse (PRC) found that many data brokers hav

Which operating system was targeted by the first ever mobile phone virus?

Choose wisely! The correct answer, the explanation, and an intriguing story await. Correct Answer: Symbian Before becoming the iconic star of Super Mario Bros., what was Mario originally named? The first known mobile phone virus was Cabir, also referred to as Caribe. Discovered in June 2004 by Kaspersky Lab, Cabir primarily targeted mobile devices running the Symbian operating system, an OS widely used in Nokia phones during the early 2000s. Although the virus itself was not overtly malicious

The Architects of Project 2025 Are Suddenly Very Concerned About AI Safety

The Heritage Foundation — the group behind the infamous Project 2025, the conservative policy plan that outlined regressive social policies and the consolidation of executive power that's served as a playbook for the Trump administration — is suddenly really, really down with AI regulation. Who could have guessed! The conservative think tank has recently been sharing a clip from a May episode of the "Heritage Explains" podcast in which Wesley Hodges, the Heritage Foundation's Acting Director of

WhatsApp rolls out Meta AI-powered message summaries in the U.S.

A couple of weeks ago, WABetaInfo spotted signs that Meta was gearing up to bring AI-generated summaries for WhatsApp messages. Today, the feature is officially live for users in the U.S. Here’s how to use it. Summarization is perhaps one of the most useful applications of generative AI, especially when it comes to quickly catching up on transactional information. Which is why, provided it’s well-implemented, using AI to condense notifications and group chats can genuinely save time. Which is

To me, it’s freeing. Using a case relieves me of the worry that it will accumulate tons of little scratches. So, I wasted no time testing cases on the new Nintendo Switch 2, and it didn’t take long for me to find one that I think is the best. I tried several types of cases on the Switch 2. I teste

Air quality tests around xAI’s Memphis data center raise questions

Elon Musk’s xAI is the subject of scrutiny in Memphis, where natural gas turbines powering its Colossus data center have raised alarm among residents concerned about air pollution. On Tuesday, the City of Memphis released the results of initial air quality testing performed by a third party, saying that levels of the 10 pollutants tested were not dangerous. But the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC), which is threatening to sue xAI on behalf of the NAACP, said that the tests omitted a key

NASA’S James Webb Space Telescope has captured its first direct image of an exoplanet

NASA’S James Webb Space Telescope has captured direct images of a planet outside of our solar system, which is the first time it has accomplished such a feat. This is a very big deal because exoplanets don't put out much light, so researchers typically discover new planets through indirect methods like keeping track of shadows as they pass across a host star. Webb, however, didn't have to do all that. It has directly captured images of a planet called TWA 7 b . Scientists believe the planet is

AI Agents Are Getting Better at Writing Code—and Hacking It as Well

The latest artificial intelligence models are not only remarkably good at software engineering—new research shows they are getting ever-better at finding bugs in software, too. AI researchers at UC Berkeley tested how well the latest AI models and agents could find vulnerabilities in 188 large open source codebases. Using a new benchmark called CyberGym, the AI models identified 17 new bugs including 15 previously unknown, or “zero-day,” ones. “Many of these vulnerabilities are critical,” says
