The rise of async AI programming

19 August 2025 Ankur Goyal I spend a decent amount of time reviewing code I didn't write. An AI agent takes a detailed problem description, writes code (primarily Typescript, Rust, and Python), adds tests, and commits the changes to a branch. I tap back in when everything's ready for review. This used to feel like a futuristic scenario, but it's how I work now, and it's how many developers are starting to work. The shift is subtle but powerful: instead of writing code line by line, we're learn

Native ACME support comes to Nginx

NGINX and Let's Encrypt share a common vision of an open and secure web. Now, with built-in support for ACME, the world's most popular web server, reverse proxy and ingress controller for Kubernetes can simplify certificate management for everyone. From the home lab to scaled-out, mission-critical enterprise deployments. Our ideal has always been that server software could get and renew Let’s Encrypt certificates automatically, with minimal human intervention. Over time, more and more web serv

Gmail’s new tab keeps all your order delivery and purchase emails in one tidy place

Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority TL;DR Gmail is getting an update that will introduce a new “Purchases” tab. The new view will put all of your purchase and delivery updates in one place. The update will also add a “most relevant” sorting option to the Promotions category on mobile. Gmail makes it fairly easy to stay on top of your deliveries with package tracking, summary cards, and more. Now it’s making it easier to keep track of the emails that contain that purchase and delivery informa

Gmail will now filter your purchases into a new tab

Google is rolling out an update for Gmail on mobile and the web that will make it easier to track emails for your deliveries. The most prominent change you'll see is a new Purchases tab, where Gmail will put all your delivery emails so you can view them in one place. In the app, you'll be able to access the new view via the side menu. Just click the hamburger icon in the text box at the top of the interface. Even though deliveries now have their own tab, Gmail will still show packages that are

Akira ransomware exploiting critical SonicWall SSLVPN bug again

The Akira ransomware gang is actively exploiting CVE-2024-40766, a year-old critical-severity access control vulnerability, to gain unauthorized access to SonicWall devices. The hackers are leverging the security issue to gain access to target networks via unpatched SonicWall SSL VPN endpoints. SonicWall released a patch for CVE-2024-40766 last year in August, marking it as actively exploited. The flaw allows unauthorized resource access and can cause firewall crashes. At the time, SonicWall

I spent $20 on Codex and got 24 days of coding work done in 6 hours - but there's a big catch

Aitor Diago/Moment/Getty Images Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. ZDNET's key takeaways I spent $20 on Codex and saw 16x productivity. Hard usage limits cut off coding in mid-project unexpectedly. Premium tools can cost $800 monthly but give steadier results. We've talked before about OpenAI's Codex, the AI model designed specifically for programming work. While I found it to have some capabilities, the need to use it only in GitHub or as part of the command-line termin

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Ends Its Bumpy Season With a Similarly Bumpy Finale

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds‘ third season has been its bumpiest ride yet, with more lows than highs. But in something that feels like somewhat of a reset for the series, its finale brings together elements from a few of those highs (and a few of those lows, for good or ill) to deliver an ending that at the very least brings the Enterprise into proverbial spacedock smoothly… if not without a few scrapes along the hull. Yes, the mostly good news is that “New Life and New Civilizations” (which g

Study Directly Links Emissions from Fossil Fuel Producers to Devastating Heatwaves

A new study directly links hundreds of major heatwaves since 2000 to the emissions from fossil fuel and cement producers. Among its fundings, the researchers conclude that as many as a quarter of all heatwaves since the start of this century would have been “virtually impossible” without emissions from any of the world’s 14 largest fossil fuel and cement producers. The study, published Wednesday in the journal Nature, shows that greenhouse gas emissions from 180 of the world’s biggest cement, o

Flynn Lives in New ‘Tron: Ares’ Trailer That Goes Heavy on Jeff Bridges

There are a lot of big names in the cast of Tron: Ares but, really, there’s one that truly sells the movie. That’s Jeff Bridges. Bridges, of course, starred in the first Tron over 40 years ago, as well as its sequel, Tron: Legacy, 15 years ago. His character, Kevin Flynn, is the key to everything that has happened in this story, and while Tron: Ares doesn’t seem to be about him, the fact he’s in it at all is a major selling point. That’s why we really enjoyed this new trailer released by Disney

Gmail makes it easier to track upcoming package deliveries

Galaxy S26 phones might not get those big charging upgrades, after all

Ryan Haines / Android Authority TL;DR Samsung’s smallest Galaxy S26 phones could stick with 25W charging for another year. Early Galaxy S26 Ultra rumors suggested the phone may charge faster than 45W. Now regulatory filings suggest that Samsung will keep the Ultra at 45W again. For a whole lot of smartphone shoppers, power is the name of the game. And we’re not talking performance, either, like how high you can get those benchmark figures, but electrical power: how much charge your phone hol

The Buyer’s Guide to Browser Extension Management

While most enterprises lock down endpoints, harden networks, and scan for vulnerabilities, one of the riskiest vectors often slips through unmonitored: browser extensions. These small, user-installed applications can execute privileged code, access sensitive DOM elements, intercept network requests, and even exfiltrate data, all within the context of enterprise-approved browsers. Keep Aware’s new Buyer’s Guide to Browser Extension Management explores how security and IT leaders can achieve comp

Apple Watch Series 11, SE 3, and Ultra 3 Hands-On: Time for a Bigger Reboot?

Excuse the pun, but all of the air at the Steve Jobs Theater at Tuesday’s Apple Event was sucked up by the super-skinny iPhone Air. Not to say that the iPhone 17 Pros, especially in Cosmic Orange, didn’t get their fair share of oglers (it did), but it did feel like many attendees took a quick glance at the new Apple Watches and floated on by to get back to the iPhone Air. I wasn’t at all surprised by the deflated interest in the three new Apple Watches that were announced. They’re basically int

Exploding Primordial Black Holes Could ‘Rewrite the History of the Universe’

It’s been a fantastic week for Stephen Hawking’s black hole theories. Yesterday, LIGO confirmed the famed physicist’s prediction about black hole mergers. Now, another team believes they’ve found a way to observe primordial black holes—cosmic behemoths that emerged not from the ashes of dying stars but from the chaos of the early universe. In a paper published September 9 in Physical Review Letters, a team of physicists make the bold prediction that, within the next decade, we will be able to w

France says Apple notified victims of new spyware attacks

In Brief Apple has notified a number of individuals that their devices were targeted in a spyware campaign, according to the French government. France’s national cybersecurity response unit said on Thursday that it was aware that Apple on September 3 sent a new notification to affected customers whose Apple devices may have been hacked. The cybersecurity unit said receiving a threat notification means that at least one of the devices linked to a customer’s iCloud account “has been targeted an

Opendoor stock soars 60% after company names new CEO

Two ways Apple is (wisely) being inclusive about its latest health features

Apple is sometimes accused of deliberately withholding new features from older devices for no good reason. For example, eyebrows were raised when dual capture video recording was restricted to the iPhone 17 when the same feature has been supported by third-party apps all the way back to the iPhone 11, so is clearly nothing to do with hardware capabilities. When it comes to the latest health features, however, the company is wisely taking a far more inclusive approach … Hypertension alerts The
