Measuring the impact of AI on experienced open-source developer productivity

I’m Rewatching the Jurassic Park Movies to Get in the Mood for Jurassic World: Rebirth. Here’s Where You Can Binge the Whole Franchise

I first encountered Jurassic Park one fateful day during middle school when my teacher rolled in a cart topped with a CRT television, popped in a VHS tape of Jurassic Park and pressed play. I was instantly hooked and I've since watched the film countless times, including a 2013 trip to see the movie in 3D on the big screen at my AMC theater. Jurassic World: Rebirth hit cinemas on July 2 and I've been rewatching the entire series to get in the mood. With run times ranging from 1 hour and 32 minu

Reolink Altas Review: As Good as a Battery-Powered Security Camera Gets

I find cameras bolted onto my home supremely useful, although maybe not for the reasons I’m expected to. Yes, I care whether a camera reliably detects that someone is on my porch, but it’s not about break-ins—I mostly want to know when my packages have been delivered. Otherwise, I want a security camera to reliably record, be easy to use, last a long time on a charge, and not need a cloud subscription to work. So far, after more than a week with the Reolink Altas, the battery-powered Wi-Fi camer

How Netflix’s ‘Leviathan’ United Japanese Animation and Western Imagination

Leviathan, the latest collaboration between Beastars‘ Studio Orange and Star Wars: Visions producer Qubic Pictures, marks Netflix’s entry—alongside Crunchyroll—into the realm of Western novel-to-anime adaptations, echoing a path carved by the Answer Studio’s Anne Shirley. Based on Scott Westerfeld and Keith Thompson’s 2009 steampunk alternate history of World War I (featuring mechs and living animal airships), the anime aims to go beyond a copy-paste replication of its source material. With the

Over 40 Million AI Videos Have Been Made With Google Veo 3 Since May: How My Expert Testing Went

Google's most advanced AI video model continues to be dominant. Veo 3 made a splash when it was released at Google I/O in May, boasting one big, audible difference from other AI video generators: It can create sound, synchronized to a scene's action. And people have been taking advantage of it -- more than 40 million Veo 3 videos have been created in the last seven weeks, across Gemini and its new filmmaker-focused tool called Flow, Google said in a blog post on Thursday. Upgrades like the ones

Don’t look now, but YouTube’s video player has a new design

Joe Maring / Android Authority TL;DR YouTube appears to be rolling out or testing a new UI design for its player on the web. The new design places the video controls into bubbles. This UI change was first spotted back in April. Every now and then, YouTube tries to update its look to mixed results. You may remember the backlash the company got last year when it tried to relocate the video title, description, and comments section to the right side panel. Well, the video platform is at it again

James Gunn's 'Superman' Isn't a Comic Book Movie. It's a Punk Rock Victory Lap

CNET’s expert staff reviews and rates dozens of new products and services each month, building on more than a quarter century of expertise. David Corenswet as the titular Kryptonian in James Gunn's Superman. Screenshot by Aaron Pruner/CNET There's a small, somewhat throwaway line spoken halfway into Superman by Rachel Brosnahan's whip-smart Lois Lane to David Corenswet's titular Kryptonian that is the key to what's really going on in DC's highly anticipated blockbuster. I'd go so far as to say

Samsung Plans to Launch a Trifold Phone This Year, Says Executive

While Samsung has been showing off mobile display concepts with three screens at trade events like CES for several years, it looks like it's finally bringing one to market. The new phone model failed to debut at Samsung's Unpacked event this week in New York. But in a press conference following the launch of its latest foldable phones, Roh Tae-moon, the acting head of Samsung Electronics' Device Experience Division reportedly confirmed that the company plans to launch a trifold phone by the end

YouTube is getting rid of its Trending page and Trending Now list

YouTube is removing its Trending page and Trending Now list in favor of category-specific charts, the company announced on Thursday. With this change, YouTube is moving away from the single, all-encompassing list for trending content to now just displaying the most popular content in specific categories on YouTube Charts. The platform says the update better aligns with the way trending content is discovered today, noting that when the Trending page launched in 2015, it was a lot simpler to capt
