Tesla's Robotaxis Have Already Gotten Into Numerous Accidents

Tesla has been caught hiding details of three separate robotaxi accidents that happened since the launch of the service. As Electrek reports, the Elon Musk-led company reported the three crashes, which occurred in the early days of its pilot robotaxi service in Austin, to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA.) At the time, the company's robotaxi fleet of modified Model Y vehicles only consisted of "ten to 20" vehicles, according to Musk, which even had safety drivers sitti

Lyft launches autonomous fleet with May Mobility in Atlanta

Lyft and May Mobility have teamed up to launch a fleet of autonomous vehicles in Atlanta. It's a pilot program, so it's currently only available to Lyft riders in the area of midtown Atlanta. The companies promise a "measured, safety-first approach" with this rollout. The fleet consists of hybrid-electric Toyota Sienna Autono-MaaS vehicles equipped with May Mobility’s self-driving technology. Lyft and May Mobility announced this partnership last year, but Atlanta is the first city to get a flee

‘Star Trek’ Journalists, Ranked

The potential for what journalism looks like in Star Trek is a heady idea that’s been around as long as the series itself. What does reporting the news look like in utopia? What does it mean that the Federation has its own news networks, alongside a host of interstellar media organizations? What does freedom of information mean in a universe that has Starfleet? And yet, we’ve actually had very few characters appear in the series as fully dedicated journalists and reporters. That changed a littl

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Did a Documentary Episode That Should’ve Been Killed in the Edit

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is, at this point, very clearly a series that is unafraid to dabble in its format on a regular basis. That can lead to episodes of Star Trek that don’t necessarily look or feel like what we expect of Star Trek, even if they still play with ideas and approaches that fit into what the franchise has done for generations now. This week’s Strange New Worlds definitely fits into both of those ideas, with an episode in a new format, an in-universe documentary, and an episo

Battlestar Galactica might finally get the video game adaption it deserves

In the 16 years since Ronald D. Moore's take on Battlestar Galactica ended its official TV run in 2009, the most surprising thing about the series is that it hasn't inspired many great games. Sure, more than a few releases have carried the Battlestar Galactica name, but none of those have managed to capture what made the 2003 miniseries and later 2004 show so special. That might change early next year when Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes arrives. Ahead of today's announcement of the game,

Revel shuts down its ride-hail business to focus on EV charging

Revel has shut down its ride-hailing service in New York City, in yet another pivot for the company that started out by renting electric scooters in 2019. Moving forward, Revel will instead focus on its nascent EV charging business, which includes operating five stations in New York and one in San Francisco. A visit to Revel’s app on Monday showed a message thanking users for “riding with us the last 4 years!” and announcing it has “permanently closed our rideshare service.” Revel’s website ech

Lyft and Baidu plan to bring their robotaxis to the UK and Germany next year

Lyft and Baidu have shed more light on their plan for a worldwide fleet of autonomous vehicles . After the first rollouts — which are earmarked for Asia and the Middle East later this year — the companies have their designs set on Europe. They're aiming to deploy robotaxis in the UK and Germany in 2026, as long as they get approval from regulators. The goal is to then expand the European fleet to thousands of vehicles across the continent in the following years. Baidu is using its sixth-generat

Waymo expands robotaxi operations to Dallas with help from Avis

In context: Google's sister company, Waymo, plans to launch its autonomous ride-hailing service in Dallas next year. The company already operates in Austin, Atlanta, Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, and has plans to expand to Miami and Washington, DC by 2026. Waymo has partnered with Avis to manage a robotaxi fleet in Dallas, Texas, despite having an active tie-up with Uber for fleet maintenance services in Austin and Atlanta. As part of the multi-year deal, Avis will oversee vehicle ma

The first Star Trek: Starfleet Academy trailer is filled with Easter eggs

We've known Star Trek: Starfleet Academy was coming for a while now , but we finally have some real footage. Paramount just dropped a trailer , in addition to an official announcement that the show will premiere in "early 2026." For the uninitiated, the show is set at the titular Starfleet Academy in future San Francisco and follows a group of cadets and their instructors. The trailer introduces us to all of the major characters, more or less, all while chancellor Holly Hunter does her best spa

‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ Cast and Creators Lift the Lid on Their New Series

Thanks to San Diego Comic-Con, we know quite a bit more about Star Trek‘s next new series, Starfleet Academy. We got a teaser trailer and character details—and the show’s cast and creators took to the Hall H stage to share even more hints about what’s to come. Though Paul Giamatti—who portrays the show’s “half-Klingon, half-Tellerite” villain, a blend clarified by executive producer and co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman—was not in attendance, Holly Hunter, who plays Academy chancellor Captain Nahla A

The ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ Trailer Welcomes You Back to School

Star Trek faces an uncertain future at the moment, as shows that helped define its streaming renaissance end one by one, and little is known about what lies on the horizon (especially thanks to current events in our own world). So it’s perhaps fitting, then, that the one new show we do know is coming is all about welcoming a new generation back to Star Trek‘s fundamental ideals after a similar period of uncertainty: Starfleet Academy. To close out today’s packed Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-
