$100 Off Shark Promo Code | October 2025

Keeping my house clean can feel like an impossible task with a litter-kicking-happy cat and a two-year-old on a mission to throw everything, whether it’s Cheerios or pizza, onto the floor. One of the things that has made it easier, though, is my Shark handheld vacuum. The Shark UltraCyclone Pet Pro Plus is one of our favorite handheld vacuums, and it’s made it easy to clean up messes from both my cat and tiny human without needing to lug my old vacuum out for every mess. If you want a mess-free

Scientists Made Human Eggs From Skin Cells and Used Them to Form Embryos

In a controversial step that raises the possibility of a new kind of infertility treatment, scientists report that they have produced functional human eggs in the lab that were able to be fertilized with sperm. The proof-of-concept study, published today in the journal Nature Communications, involves using human skin cells to generate eggs, some of which were capable of producing early-stage embryos. None of the embryos were used to try to establish a pregnancy, and it’s unlikely that they wou

Biologists Turn Skin Cells Into Human Eggs in Groundbreaking Experiment

A team of scientists has pulled off a microscopic trick worthy of Houdini. In new research out today, they show it’s possible to create functional human egg cells from a person’s skin cells. Researchers at Oregon Health & Science University led the study, published Tuesday in Nature Communications. Using a variety of techniques, they successfully fertilized eggs generated from skin cells, which then grew in the lab for several days. Though the findings are only a proof of concept for now, the m

Is the “million-year-old” skull from China a Denisovan or something else?

A fossil skull from China that made headlines last week may or may not be a million years old, but it's probably closely related to Denisovans. The fossil skull, dubbed Yunxian 2, is one of three unearthed from a terrace alongside the Han River, in central China, in a layer of river sediment somewhere between 600,000 and 1 million years old. Archaeologists originally identified them as Homo erectus, but Hanjiang Normal University paleoanthropologist Xiaobo Feng and his colleagues’ recent digita

Meet the cute new DoorDash robot, Dot – claimed to be a first [Video]

A DoorDash robot has been unveiled by the delivery company, named Dot. Looking vaguely like an extremely red stroller, the company says it’s the first commercial autonomous delivery robot to be able to use any mix of roads, sidewalks, and bike lanes … DoorDash says it’s intended to replace the use of cars for more local deliveries. “You don’t always need a full-sized car to deliver a tube of toothpaste or pack of diapers. That’s the insight behind Dot,” said Stanley Tang, Co-Founder and Head o

Visualizing Automorphisms of S6

The Weird Symmetry of Shuffling Six Items Visualizing the Exceptional Automorphism of S 6 When shuffling around items, there's something strangely unique about shuffling precisely six items. In fact, it's so weird, that mathematicians refer to it as "exceptional" or "exotic". This is an interactive post exploring this exceptional property, and trying to visualize just what the heck is going on. We're going to build up to the following diagram, along with the concepts needed to understand it.

Waymo Says There’s a Perfect Reasonable Explanation for Its Car Roaming a Golf Course

A video of one of Waymo’s autonomous ride-hailing vehicles driving over the carefully groomed lawn of a golf course has gone viral on social media. “Waymo spotted on golf course, late for tee time?” a user wrote on subreddit dedicated to the company’s self-driving efforts. “Wonder what happened with this one.” While many interpreted the video as a particularly egregious instance of a driverless taxi getting confused, the company informed Futurism in an email that there was a perfectly reasonab

Apple iPhone 17 review: Sometimes boring is best

Apple seems determined to leave a persistent gap between the cameras of its Pro iPhones and the regular ones, but most other features—the edge-to-edge-screen design with FaceID, the Dynamic Island, OLED display panels, Apple Intelligence compatibility—eventually trickle down to the regular-old iPhone after a generation or two of timed exclusivity. One feature that Apple has been particularly slow to move down the chain is ProMotion, the branding the company uses to refer to a screen that can re

DARPA Going Hard on Insect-Sized Spy Robots

Forget robot wolves and missile-deflecting satellites — those things are already becoming old news. Instead, future wars just might revolve around insect-size spy robots. A recent digest of present-day microbots by US national security magazine The National Interest breaks down the many machines currently in development by the US military and its associates. They include sea-based microdrones, cockroach-style surveillance bots, and even cyborg insects. Arguably the most refined program to date

James Gunn Wants ‘Man of Tomorrow’ to Show Lex Luthor’s Layers

While the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow isn’t out until 2027, that hasn’t stopped director/writer James Gunn from vaguely teasing some plans, particulary as they relate to Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. In a recent interview with The Ringer-Verse, Gunn was asked about his approach to Lex for Tomorrow and the DC universe overall. Gunn is aiming to “get into the heart of Lex” and explore more of his human side. By his own admission, Lex was a bastard in that first movie (even before he killed Sup

If the iPhone 17 doesn't get ProMotion, I won't be upgrading my iPhone 12

In 2020, I bought an iPhone 12 to replace my aging Pixel 3 , and nearly five years later, I'm still using that same device because it works fine and Apple has yet to bring the feature I want most on a regular iPhone: a ProMotion display. If you're not familiar with the company's marketing lingo, ProMotion is its way of describing a high-refresh rate display. Apple introduced ProMotion with the iPhone 13 Pro . Since then, every Pro model has offered a 120Hz refresh rate display with the ability
