HBO Max comes full circle, and this time your apps will auto-update

The HBO streaming video app became HBO Max when the company added Warner Bros movies and Turner TV shows. In the worst rebrand since Twitter became X, the company later dropped the unique and valuable HBO part of the name and kept the generic and worthless Max part. Two years later, the company is fixing that. It today becomes HBO Max once more – and this time around, your apps should automatically update … Musk still holds the dumbest rebrand award thanks to throwing away a global household n

Apple might be the next company to add a ChatGPT-style chatbot to its Support app, likely as a way to automatically handle cases covered in its documentation and hand off only the trickier ones to a human. All things considered, this is a good move. The podcast was nowhere in sight. YouTube Music had let me down, again. My dream is to have as few apps as possible, and t

Tim Cook has a new deputy but Apple’s next CEO is probably still someone else

Jeff Williams, often considered Tim Cook’s successor, is leaving Apple. Sabih Khan, a 30-year veteran of the company, is Apple’s next chief operating officer. Does Khan taking Cook’s old job make him CEO-designate? Jeff Williams retiring certainly clears the path for Khan to climb up the succession planning ladder. However, I would wager that Apple’s CEO succession plan isn’t changing. Jeff Williams retires and Sabih Khan steps up Jeff Williams, who has been called Tim Cook’s Tim Cook, has alw

FTC’s click-to-cancel rule has been struck down by federal judges at the eleventh hour

In 2024, the FTC was set to implement the "click to cancel" rule, which would have placed requirements on companies to be forthright about the terms and conditions and exit options for their subscriptions. Since that time, the agency has become a less independent part of the executive branch and in May, it delayed enforcing some parts of this rule to July 14.
