A new Apple TV 4K is coming soon: will it support Apple Intelligence?

A hardware refresh for the Apple TV 4K set-top box is coming soon. The current generation was released in spring 2022, and is powered by an A15 Bionic chip. The new generation is expected to feature a new Apple-designed WiFi and Bluetooth chip, as well as a CPU upgrade. A report from MacRumors today cites code references that indicate the box will actually get an A17 Pro chip, the same processor that powers the iPhone 15 Pro. The jump from A15 to A17 obviously will provide a nice boost to CPU

What to expect at Apple's iPhone 17 event

We're likely only around a month away (give or take) from Apple's next iPhone launch event. This year's shindig could see the thinnest iPhone to date joining the iPhone 17 lineup. Also on tap could be new Apple Watch models — including the first Ultra model in two years — and (maybe) the long-awaited AirPods Pro 3. Apple's iPhone family will likely welcome a new member this year. The iPhone Air is expected to be roughly 5.55 mm thick. The thinnest model so far has been 2014's iPhone 6, at 6.9 m

I converted this Windows 11 mini PC into a Linux work station - and didn't regret it

Geekom IT15 Mini PC ZDNET's key takeaways The Geekcom IT 15 Mini PC is available on Amazon for $1,100. This tiny form-factor PC has plenty of power to spare for everyday tasks. The only downside is that the IT15 doesn't have a dedicated GPU. $1,199 at Amazon I've always enjoyed a mini PC, and any time I can cobble together a system with a tiny form factor, I feel like a kid at Christmas. The latest mini to grace my desktop was the Geekcom IT 15 Mini PC, a truly diminutive machine with a healt

iPhone DevOps

iPhone DevOps - ultimate edition December 28, 2023 I wrote earlier about my dream of developing “single-handedly” on an iPhone. Then, I wrote some more about it. The dream still lives strongly! I am now coding single-handedly in any language on my iPhone SE model 2022. But although i still like pythonista I am now using a combination of three great apps that allow me to write code in any language using only one hand, holding my son in the other! what happened to pythonista? Wasn’t it awesome b

I Love How Streamlined the Excellent Pixel 9 Pro Is, and It’s 40% Off for a Limited Time

CNET's key takeaways The Google Pixel 9 Pro is currently on sale with $400 off After months of using Google's Pixel 9 Pro, I like its solid overall performance and quirky new AI skills. The element that stands out most is how easy it is to use. While Android users do swear by them, a lot of other people consider Android phones to feel overly complex. The user interface isn't quite as easy to adjust as the Apple offering, and while it may sound unreasonable, Samsung's Galaxy S25 range, for ex

Why You Can’t Trust a Chatbot to Talk About Itself

When something goes wrong with an AI assistant, our instinct is to ask it directly: “What happened?” or “Why did you do that?” It's a natural impulse—after all, if a human makes a mistake, we ask them to explain. But with AI models, this approach rarely works, and the urge to ask reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of what these systems are and how they operate. A recent incident with Replit's AI coding assistant perfectly illustrates this problem. When the AI tool deleted a production datab

The Future of EV Charging Can Be Found at Your Local Gas Station

New federal guidance controlling $5 billion in funding for electric vehicle fast chargers in the US could direct more money towards gas station and truck stop operators. The result? The future of “topping up” your car might look a lot like the present. This week, the US Department of Transportation released new interim guidance for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. These rules advise states on how to spend $5 billion in funding for new electric-vehicle fast chargers,

Hooray! ChatGPT Plus brings back legacy models alongside an updated GPT-5 experience

GPT-5 has faced a wave of criticism recently, both from everyday users and reviewers like our very own Calvin Wankhede here at Android Authority. Much of this feedback centered on the new model feeling more curt and having less personality. OpenAI responded quickly, addressing performance, personality, and usage limit issues — improving the overall experience significantly. Now, a fresh update makes things even better, at least for ChatGPT Plus subscribers. OpenAI has greatly expanded GPT-5’s f

After owning every Google Pixel flagship, here's why 2025 will be a turning point for me

Adam Breeden/ZDNET ZDNET's key takeaways The Google Pixel 10 is expected to receive significant upgrades this year, including a dedicated telephoto lens. Greater feature parity with the Pro models, combined with no expected price increases, makes the standard Pixel an enticing option. It still won't be the best option for power users, especially if you want the most capable camera system from Google. Google's non-Pro Pixel phone has always been the "safe pick." It's the model I recommend to

Pebble returning with a new watch and old-school charm

Good things really do come to those who wait, and Pebble fans have been waiting years. The beloved e-paper smartwatch brand, which predated and out-charmed the Apple Watch for many, is about to make a proper comeback. Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky has finalized the design for the new Pebble Time 2. This marks the return of retro-friendly minimalism and custom watch faces that made the original a cult hit. Earlier this year Migicovsky regained the intellectual property behind Pebble, followed

Elon Musk's DOGE Was Far More of a Dismal Failure Than We Thought

Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency originally promised to save the government $2 trillion in waste. That target quickly dropped to $1 trillion. Then in April, Musk started intimating that the savings would only be in the region of $150 billion, making it clear to all but his most diehard supporters that DOGE was failing on its own terms — even going by its own dubious estimates of its progress. Now, it's looking like those purported "savings" are somehow even more pitiful than onc

Co-founder of Elon Musk’s xAI departs the company

Igor Babuschkin, a co-founder of Elon Musk’s xAI startup, announced his departure from the company on Wednesday in a post on X. Babuschkin led engineering teams at xAI and helped build the startup into one of Silicon Valley’s leading AI model developers just a few years after it was founded. “Today was my last day at xAI, the company that I helped start with Elon Musk in 2023,” Babuschkin wrote in the post. “I still remember the day I first met Elon, we talked for hours about AI and what the fu

Scientists Are Getting Seriously Worried That We've Already Hit Peak AI

The long-awaited release of OpenAI's GPT-5 has gone over with a wet thud. Though the private sector continues to dump billions into artificial intelligence development, hoping for exponential gains, the research community isn't convinced. Speaking to The New Yorker, Gary Marcus, a neural scientist and longtime critic of OpenAI, said what many have been coming to suspect: despite years of development at a staggering cost, AI doesn't seem to be getting much better. Though GPT-5 technically perf

I tested GPT-5 and now I get why the Internet hates it. Is it time to ditch ChatGPT?

Calvin Wankhede / Android Authority After years of rumors and speculation, OpenAI’s next-gen GPT-5 language model is finally here. But while many of those early rumors claimed that the next major ChatGPT model would achieve artificial general intelligence or AGI, that’s not the case. GPT-5 does not surpass human-level intelligence, although it’s smarter and more capable than any of its predecessors. Despite the improvements, however, it has garnered significant and widespread backlash across t

GPT-5 was supposed to simplify ChatGPT but now it has 4 new modes - here's why

Lance Whitney / Elyse Betters Picaro / ZDNET ZDNET's key takeaways GPT-5 now offers four different modes. You can still choose Auto to let ChatGPT determine how to respond. New choices add complexity to a model that was supposed to be simple. With the recent release of GPT-5, OpenAI touted its new model as a more efficient one that decides on its own how best to respond to your queries. Gone were the array of different modes that forced you to direct the AI based on whether you wanted a qui

Amazon Is Expanding Same-Day Grocery Delivery to Over 2000 Cities

Amazon wants people to shop for eggs, milk, and other fresh groceries on its online shop. The e-commerce giant announced on Wednesday that same-day delivery for perishable grocery items, including meat and seafood, is now available in more than 1,000 cities, including Phoenix, Orlando, Raleigh, and Milwaukee. It plans to expand the service even further to over 2,300 U.S. cities by the end of the year and even more towns in 2026. “We’re continuously innovating to make grocery shopping simpler,

Apple Watch Ultra 3 could remedy this current ‘Ultra’ discrepancy

Apple Watch Ultra 3 is coming very soon, and rumors indicate it could remedy a discrepancy that arose last year, when the Apple Watch Series 10 debuted several exclusive features that bested the latest Ultra model. Apple Watch Series 10 surpassed the latest Ultra model in several ways last year Last year after the Apple Watch Series 10 launched, I wrote an article that proved controversial. It was titled, “When Ultra doesn’t mean ‘best’ anymore.” The inspiration was Apple Watch Series 10 gain

Sam Altman Calls His Own AI Model "Annoying" After Being Forced to Raise It From the Dead

As OpenAI continues to try to tamp down on the chaos of GPT-5's disastrous release, CEO Sam Altman is throwing digs at the company's now-deprecated and controversial model. Late last week, OpenAI finally rolled out GPT-5, the latest version of its flagship large language model. Without warning, the company replaced all previous versions with the latest model — which, in addition to being deeply underwhelming, proved to have a colder, less obsequious tone than its predecessor, GPT-4o. The respo

Real-world Pixel 10 dummy photos offer hope that Google may not ditch this feature

TL;DR Real-world images of what appears to be a dummy unit of the Pixel 10 have surfaced. The images suggest that Google may not have completely ditched the physical SIM tray. A week from today, we’ll be watching Google’s Pixel launch event. At this point, we’ve seen more than enough renders of the Pixel 10 family, so we have a pretty good idea what we’re in for. But if you’re looking for something a little more tangible than renders, some real-world images have recently surfaced online. Don’

Google’s official Pixel 10 cases just leaked, confirming a big upgrade

TL;DR Newly leaked images have given us a good look at Google’s first-party Pixel 10 cases. The cases resemble last year’s Pixel 9 versions, with the primary difference being the inclusion of built-in magnets. The case colors mimic those we expect for the Pixel 10 itself, including Indigo and Limoncello. The Google Pixel 10 series has already been leaked to death at this point, whether we’re talking design renders or detailed specs. With the phones fully leaked, the rumor mill has now turned
