Scientists isolated cells from developing human cortex tissue between 15 and 24 weeks gestation, fixing and preserving them for later analysis. They then used fluorescence-activated cell sorting with antibody markers like SOX2, EOMES, HOPX, OLIG2 and PU.1 to separate specific cell populations, including radial glia and oligodendrocyte precursor/microglial cells, for downstream genomic study.
Researchers used long-read direct RNA sequencing on Oxford Nanopore's PromethION platform to identify chimeric messenger RNAs—transcripts formed by joining sequences from two different genes—in mammalian immune cells. The study found that some of these hybrid transcripts are not just sequencing artifacts but actually get translated into functional proteins that play roles in immunity.

A separate duplication was also found within Extended Data Fig. 6e. Both figures have now been replaced with the correct original bioluminescence data and source files, including time stamps.
