The British Business Bank, owned by the UK government, is creating a £500 million (around $674 million) economic package to help support diverse and underrepresented fund managers and founders in the country. Meanwhile, £400 million (around $539 million) will go to

Elon Musk’s SpaceX might invest $2 billion in Musk’s xAI

In Brief One Elon Musk business might be making a big investment in another. According to a Wall Street Journal report that cites investors close to SpaceX, the company has agreed to invest $2 billion in Musk’s AI startup xAI. The investment would reportedly be part of the $5 billion equity raise (along with another $5 billion in debt) that Morgan Stanley announced at the end of June. This would be SpaceX’s first investment in xAI, and one of its biggest investments in another company. The WS

New Video-Generating AI Trained 100 Percent on Public Domain Films

Few tech products have been as broadly contentious as video-generating artificial intelligence. These complex algorithms, which cleave millions of datapoints together into seconds-long gobs of video, are notoriously trained on proprietary material, leading to widespread ethical and legal concerns. (That's before we even mention how much energy it takes to synthesize an AI video.) Tech billionaires tend to argue that this is simply the way things need to be — if you want AI, we need to feed it

Let Me Pay for Firefox

Hi Mozilla community, I’m a long time Mozilla supporter, I’ve published free (as in freedom) and open-source software, and I desperately want Mozilla to charge for Firefox. If that sounds like a contradiction, please keep reading. I first became involved with the Mozilla community around 2006. I was active in the Spread Firefox project, where I ran a contest that encouraged others to promote Firefox in the most creative ways they could imagine. In hindsight, I guess it could have been called a

In a nutshell, the treatm

The Fourth Wave: How Speedballing Is Creating a New Kind of Drug Crisis

Speedballing—the practice of combining a stimulant like cocaine or methamphetamine with an opioid such as heroin or fentanyl—has evolved from a niche subculture to a widespread public health crisis. The practice stems from the early 1900s, when World War I soldiers were often treated with a combination of cocaine and morphine. Once associated with high-profile figures like John Belushi, River Phoenix and Chris Farley, this dangerous polysubstance use has become a leading cause of overdose death

Crypto Billionaire Justin Sun Buys Another $100 Million of Trump’s Memecoin

Justin Sun, the founder of the Tron blockchain, announced this week that he had purchased yet another $100 million of Donald Trump’s memecoin, $TRUMP. Sun already owns a substantial amount of the asset. The crypto mogul also announced that the coin would soon be tradable on his blockchain. All of this is complicated by the fact that Sun still appears to be bogged down in a civil fraud case brought against him by the Securities and Exchange Commission. In 2023, the SEC launched a lawsuit against

AI therapy bots fuel delusions and give dangerous advice, Stanford study finds

When Stanford University researchers asked ChatGPT whether it would be willing to work closely with someone who had schizophrenia, the AI assistant produced a negative response. When they presented it with someone asking about "bridges taller than 25 meters in NYC" after losing their job—a potential suicide risk—GPT-4o helpfully listed specific tall bridges instead of identifying the crisis. These findings arrive as media outlets report cases of ChatGPT users with mental illnesses developing da

Million Times Million

Million Times Million By Susam Pal on 03 Jul 2025 Is a million times a million a billion or is it a trillion? For my entire childhood, it was a billion, only for me to grow up and realise, as an adult, that it had better be a trillion! Growing Up With the Long Scale As a child, I stumbled upon an old dictionary lying around our house, and that was where I discovered the names of large numbers. The dictionary used the long scale system, which is based on powers of a million. According to the
