EA is reportedly hitting the brakes on the Need for Speed franchise

The Need for Speed franchise could be making its last laps — at least for the time being. Matthew Everingham, a photographer who frequently contributed to car culture website Speedhunters, said in social media posts that Electronic Arts has "shelved Need for Speed" and is "quietly parking" the series. Speedhunters, which was funded by EA and was last updated in April of this year, will also reportedly cease operations for now. EA hasn't released an official statement on the fate of the Need for

Let me pay for Firefox

Hi Mozilla community, I’m a long time Mozilla supporter, I’ve published free (as in freedom) and open-source software, and I desperately want Mozilla to charge for Firefox. If that sounds like a contradiction, please keep reading. I first became involved with the Mozilla community around 2006. I was active in the Spread Firefox project, where I ran a contest that encouraged others to promote Firefox in the most creative ways they could imagine. In hindsight, I guess it could have been called a

Local Chatbot RAG with FreeBSD Knowledge

Out of multiple conversations with people at BSD conferences, I noticed that many would love to see a chatbot that provides precise information on FreeBSD—for users, admins, and developers. I strongly believe that there should not be an official chat.freebsd.org . Local chatbots work well and can be tweaked to fit personal needs. This documentation is written for macOS with Apple Silicon (because of the GPU support), but should work on other OSes as well. Step 1: Install Ollama (API for Multi

9 Best Electric Scooters (2025), Tested and Reviewed

Other Scooters to Consider I've tested many scooters. Not all deserve a spot above, but some are still worth considering. Niu KQi 100P Photograph: Julian Chokkattu Niu KQi 100P for $350: The KQi 100P is slightly lighter, cheaper, and faster than the Segway E2 Pro, my top budget recommendation, but I eked out slightly less range (under 5 miles). Granted, most people will be able to go a little further since you're probably not 6'4" and 250 pounds, but the Niu just has a smaller battery than th

Should You Skip the Iced Coffee This Summer Because of Dehydration?

You know the drill -- it's important to stay hydrated always, but especially in the summer heat. However, that message was taken to another level when the National Weather Service in Las Vegas advised residents across parts of Nevada, Arizona and California to avoid caffeine during extreme heat. The logic is that caffeine may speed up dehydration, which increases your risk for heat exhaustion or even heat stroke. The NWS advisory soon made headlines. To see if we should actually put down our ice

Marc Andreessen reportedly told group chat that universities will ‘pay the price’ for DEI

In Brief Venture capitalist Marc Andreessen sharply criticized universities including Stanford and MIT, along with the National Science Foundation, in a group chat with AI scientists and Trump administration officials, according to screenshots viewed by the Washington Post. According to the Post, Andreessen described MIT and Stanford (which I attended two decades ago) as “mainly political lobbying operations fighting American innovation.” He also reportedly complained that Stanford “forced my

Context Engineering Guide

What is Context Engineering? A few years ago, many, even top AI researchers, claimed that prompt engineering would be dead by now. Obviously, they were very wrong, and in fact, prompt engineering is now even more important than ever. It is so important that it is now being rebranded as context engineering. Yes, another fancy term to describe the important process of tuning the instructions and relevant context that an LLM needs to perform its tasks effectively. Much has been written already

Dépanneurs

Walk Montreal is a joint effort between C & D. And we have both walked many a streets on the island of Montreal, discovering awesome neighbourhoods, beautiful buildings and friendly people. But, it seems that whatever neighbourhood we are in, we always ask each other a similar question; “Is there a dep around here?”….What is a dep you may ask….well, a dep is slang for Dépanneur. And a Dépanneur is a corner convenience store that sells milk, bread, cold drinks, beer, wine, lotto tickets, cigarett

I Accidentally Learned Just How Durable the Galaxy Z Flip 7 Is

If you're concerned about how durable Samsung's foldable phones can be, I'm here to tell you not to worry. And that's especially true when it comes to the new Galaxy Z Flip 7. After less than six hours with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, I accidentally performed my own informal drop test. At a catered affair in Brooklyn, I walked outside to get a view of the waterfront, and when I pulled the Z Flip 7 out of my pocket, I fumbled it. I watched helplessly as Samsung's newest foldable phone fell to the groun

Chinese Scientists Create Cyborg Bees That Can Be Controlled Like Drones for Undercover Military Missions

Chinese Scientists Create Cyborg Bees That Can Be Controlled Like Drones for Undercover Military Missions A tiny backpack relays commands straight to their brain. Seal Team Bee Researchers at the Beijing Institute of Technology have turned innocent bees into cyborgs that can be controlled via a 74-milligram insect brain controller. I use these 15 hidden Android shortcuts, and you should too

Joe Maring / Android Authority The number of hidden Android shortcuts is mind-boggling. Once you include core apps, there are hundreds, and not all are created equal. Some are niche and depend on how you use your phone. Personally, I’m never going to be much of a one-handed mode or split-screen user, but those features have their fans. My favorite hidden Android shortcuts have much broader appeal. Once you hear about them, you’ll be amazed that you were getting by without them. They’re listed

The Fourth Wave: How Speedballing Is Creating a New Kind of Drug Crisis

Speedballing—the practice of combining a stimulant like cocaine or methamphetamine with an opioid such as heroin or fentanyl—has evolved from a niche subculture to a widespread public health crisis. The practice stems from the early 1900s, when World War I soldiers were often treated with a combination of cocaine and morphine. Once associated with high-profile figures like John Belushi, River Phoenix and Chris Farley, this dangerous polysubstance use has become a leading cause of overdose death

A Wildlife Expert Reveals the Best Placement for Your Bird Feeder

As a wellness writer and amateur birder, I appreciate the health benefits of being around birds. Studies show that birdwatching and hearing birdsong can positively impact our mental health, reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, lowering stress levels and fostering a sense of connection with nature. Until recently, I lived in an apartment in the heart of a city. I had to actively seek out nature and the advantages of being surrounded by our avian friends. I now live in a house with a back

I replaced my AirPods Pro with $130 HUAWEI earbuds, and I didn’t want to go back

HUAWEI Freebuds 6 The HUAWEI FreeBuds 6 are yet another pair of open-fit wireless earbuds, not unlike the AirPods 4 and Samsung Galaxy Buds 3. But with a unique design, comfortable in-ear fit, great sound quality, and surprisingly decent ANC, the FreeBuds 6 stand above their competition. My go-to pair of wireless earbuds is the AirPods Pro 2. While that may sound sacrilegious as an Android user, Apple’s earbuds just work so well for me. They sound great, have excellent noise canceling, a comfor

How to Watch the Southern Delta Aquariids and Perseids Meteor Showers

If you want to get into stargazing in 2025, there’s no better place to start than viewing a meteor shower. Meteor showers, or shooting stars, happen when Earth’s orbital path crosses a path of debris left by a comet and that material burns up in the Earth’s atmosphere. Watching a meteor shower is one of the most accessible ways to engage with the night sky. The next showers of the year are the Southern Delta Aquariids—which peak for about a week at the end of July—and the Perseids—which will pe

4 Arrested Over Scattered Spider Hacking Spree

WIRED reported this week on public records that show the United States Department of Homeland Security urging local law enforcement around the country to interpret common protest activities and surrounding logistics—including riding a bike, livestreaming a police encounter, or skateboarding—as “violent tactics.” The guidance could influence cops to use everyday behavior as a pretext for police action.
