Stepping Down as Libxml2 Maintainer

Hello, since I’ve stepped in as libxslt maintainer I’ve been studying both libxslt and libxml2 codebases. I have the time to maintain the library I just need to get familiar with the latest changes you introduced like: I haven’t find how to manage both output and input buffers. I found functions like: xmlOutputBufferCreateIO but by the places in which I’ve found them is not clear on how to use them. Should I send you an email with my questions or do you prefer other means of communication?

Garmin's new smartwatch for kids costs more than the Apple Watch SE

Garmin just announced a refresh of its Bounce smartwatch for kids and the big headline is the exorbitant price. It costs $300, which is twice the cost of the previous generation and $50 more than an Apple Watch SE. The Bounce 2 still offers tracking and communication features, both powered by an LTE connection. The exterior has been completely redesigned, with a rounded 1.2-inch AMOLED display. The original model was square-ish, resembling an Apple Watch. Communication is better here, which is

Crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Alone. By Stand-Up-Paddleboard

We will, of course, put a live tracker online for his journey, and thanks to modern communications equipment, the paddler will be able to send information, pictures and even videos from the middle of the Atlantic. Preparations for this special challenge have been ongoing for many months. However, for a project like this to come together, a lot of things have to fit together perfectly.

Roblox will require age verification for all users to access communication features

Roblox announced that it aims to roll out age estimation technology to all of its users by the end of 2025. Users on the gaming and social network will have to confirm their age in order to access communication features within the platform under the new policy. Roblox initially rolled out an age verification option to teen accounts in July as part of an effort to keep users younger than 13 from accessing select chat features. In addition to confirming ages for individual accounts, Roblox also s

Teams Grow Organically

I’ve been working a lot with service line architecture recently. If you’re not familiar with that; it’s how business units such as IT, HR, or Sales bring services to clients, both internal and external. These structures often mirror team organization. Think of it as a hierarchy: IT at level one, Software Development and Ops at level two, and then individual teams, like: Software Team X or Ops Team Y, at level three. What’s surprising is how rarely these structures reflect reality. In practice,

Brands might be cooling on satellite features, and that’s bad news for cheaper Androids

Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority TL;DR Chinese brands are scaling back satellite communication and keeping it for top-end models only. A reliable tipster says past high-end sat-com flagships sold poorly and were dropped. This could make global brands less likely to bring the feature to affordable phones. Satellite communication has been one of the most talked-about phone features in the past couple of years, and it’s no longer just for emergencies. Just this week, our APK teardown showed h

Colt Telecom attack claimed by WarLock ransomware, data up for sale

UK-based telecommunications company Colt Technology Services is dealing with a cyberattack that has caused a multi-day outage of some of the company's operations, including hosting and porting services, Colt Online, and Voice API platforms. I don't read your email threads

I Don't Read Your Email Threads 08 Aug, 2025 Email threads have got to be one of the worst possible forms of communication. You've been here before. A perfectly respectable morning is passing by. You're working through your items at a chipper pace maybe humming a song you heard on Spotify that morning. Then, the dreaded email thread comes through. Innocently, you click into the top email. The only text is "[Your Name] see below." I hate this and I bet you do too. Suddenly, you're transporte

FCC to eliminate gigabit speed goal and scrap analysis of broadband prices

The Federal Communications Commission is ditching Biden-era standards for measuring progress toward the goal of universal broadband deployment. The changes will make it easier for the FCC to give the broadband industry a passing grade in an annual progress report. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr's proposal would give the industry a thumbs-up even if it falls short of 100 percent deployment, eliminate a long-term goal of gigabit broadband speeds, and abandon a new effort to track the affordability of

Petabit-class transmission over > 1000 km using standard 19-core optical fiber

An international research team led by the Photonic Network Laboratory at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT, President: TOKUDA Hideyuki Ph.D.), and including Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (Sumitomo Electric, President: INOUE Osamu) have set a new world record in optical fiber communications, achieving data transmission at 1.02 petabits per second over a distance of 1,808 kilometers (roughly equivalent to the distance from Sapporo to Fukuoka, from Misso

Jack Dorsey just released a Bluetooth messaging app that doesn't need the internet

Jack Dorsey just released a decentralized, peer-to-peer messaging app that functions entirely over Bluetooth networks, as reported by CNBC . It's called Bitchat and doesn't need the internet to work, as there are no central servers. The Twitter co-founder calls it an experiment in "Bluetooth mesh networks, relays and store and forward models, message encryption models and a few other things.” It works by enabling encrypted communication between nearby gadgets. Basically, it sends messages direc
