Wish you could escape the planet? Too bad life in space would suck

Climate change, war and fascism got you down? Wish you could buy a ticket on the Europa Clipper spacecraft that’s on its way to check if there’s living slime on a Jupiterian moon? Before you decide to leave Earth behind and move to outer space, consider the life of an astronaut on the International Space Station. I sideloaded Galaxy Watch Ultra faces to my Galaxy Watch 7, and here’s why I’m keeping them

Ryan Haines / Android Authority I won’t lie — I haven’t touched my Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 in a while. I liked it when I reviewed it and thought it was worth buying (it’s since been replaced by the Galaxy Watch 8), but it had a few omissions that made me long for the Galaxy Watch Ultra, squircle design and all. One of those major misses was that Samsung saved a few of its best, most complicated watch faces for its top model, leaving me behind with others that were just fine. Now, though, the ta

Elon Musk Is Furious That People Are Launching So Many Satellites, Even Though He's Personally Responsible for 60 Percent of All Satellites Currently in Space

SpaceX has launched over 9,000 satellites into orbit, and the vast majority of them are still in operation today. As a result of that massive constellation, the Elon Musk-led firm controls over 60 percent of all active satellites currently in orbit. And the company's actively working to launch tens of thousands more, in an effort to bring Starlink broadband satellite internet to the world, efforts that critics say could severely impact the world of astronomy and potentially result in catastroph

These Are the First FireSat Images for Finding Wildfires From Space

At Google I/O in May, Google revealed that it's working with the Earth Fire Alliance on FireSat, a program that combines new high-resolution satellites with AI analysis to pinpoint wildfires in their earliest stages and help responders knock them down before they grow. This week the alliance released the first images captured by the initial satellite, showing how fires as small as 5-by-5 meters -- about the size of a classroom -- can be detected from space. Ars spoke with the military’s chief orbital traffic cop—here’s what we learned

Agrawal was in the room, too. "I was on the crew that needed to count the pieces," he told Ars. "I didn’t know the significance of what was happening until after many years, but the Chinese had clearly changed the nature of the space environment." The 2007 anti-satellite test also clearly changed the trajectory of Agrawal's career. We present part of our discussion with Agrawal below, and we'll share the rest of the conversation tomorrow. F1 in Belgium: The best racetrack in the world

The Belgian tourist board provided nothing to this article, the writer just really really loves Spa-Francorchamps. Ars does not accept paid editorial content. Formula 1 made its annual stop at Spa-Francorchamps, the historic track that winds its way through the hills and trees of the Ardennes. I’ll admit, I’d been waiting for this one; in fact, I’ve become somewhat of a Spa bore, having fallen in love with the place all over again a few weeks ago while attending the Crowdstrike 24-hour GT3 race

Oh Lord, ‘Peacemaker’ Has Its Foxy Season 2 Song

One of the best, most everlasting parts of that first season of Peacemaker was its opening credits as the antihero and friends (and his dad) danced to “Do You Wanna Taste It?” by Wig Wam. Scientists Find Evidence That Original Life on Earth Was Assembled From Material in Space

The molecules that form the building blocks to life may be far more common in space than once thought, according to researchers from the Max Planck Institute. Their work, published in The Astrophysical Journal, reports the detection of over a dozen types of complex organic molecules swimming closely around a protostar in the constellation Orion, suggesting that the chemicals can survive the violent processes that give birth to stars and thus may abound in space, instead of having to wait for a

Gear News of the Week: Amazon Buys Bee, VSCO Has a New App, and CMF Debuts a Smartwatch

That trade-off lets the Watch 3 Pro purportedly last 13 days on a single charge, a slight bump over its predecessor (the new watch lasts 4.5 days if you have the always-on display enabled). There's a new dual-band GPS for more accurate route tracking, 131 sport modes with a personalized running coach, and a new heart-rate sensor that CMF claims is more accurate across workout intensities and skin tones. Naturally, there's a dose of “AI-powered” post-workout summaries. The CMF Watch 3 Pro can no

The Tabs vs. Spaces war is over, and spaces have emerged victorious

The great indentation war is over and it seems like we have a clear winner. Every now and then, while exploring a new programming language, I inevitably stumble upon a heated debate, often buried deep in a GitHub issue thread, where contributors are passionately arguing over whether the language’s formatter should default to tabs or spaces. Elon Musk Swipes Back at Trump After Apparent Peace Offering

Yesterday, President Trump seemed to offer an olive branch to his former “first buddy,” Elon Musk, amidst their ongoing spat. In a post made to Truth Social, Trump claimed that he didn’t wish any harm on Elon or his businesses. “Everyone is stating that I will destroy Elon’s companies by taking away some, if not all, of the large-scale subsidies he receives from the U.S. Government. This is not so! I want Elon, and all businesses within our Country, to THRIVE, in fact, THRIVE like never before!”

Jaw-Dropping Video Shows NASA’s Plan to Deliver a Helicopter Swarm to Mars Without Landing

It’s been more than a year since the Ingenuity helicopter broke one of its blades, ending its experimental stint on Mars. On the heels of this wildly successful NASA mission, a defense contractor has introduced a new design concept to succeed the iconic Mars chopper—one that would release multiple vehicles to spread across the Martian landscape at the same time, like a coordinated swim team diving into the water.
